NEW IN 2026
FESTIVAL UPDATE
March 6, 2026

We are excited about the JBQ Festival 2026 in Springfield, Virginia, just 15 minutes out of DC. Looking forward to our time together and all that is going to happen during that time from June 11-13. We are excited about this year's Festival and are adding one thing and making one change to the competition. We want to share this with you so you will know and can prepare for this year's Festival. Let me bring you up-to-date.
We have been looking into and considering how we could run an Individual Quizzing Championship and open it to anyone across the nation. I have had requests over the years from churches that are doing JBQ, but only have one person on a team who is not eligible for the National Festival. We also see this as a very exciting event to find out who the best quizzer in the nation is. As we have been talking about and looking at how we could do that within the timeframe we have, we put together a plan. Individual quizzing would happen on Thursday between 12:00 and 5:30, with the final round of Quizzing among the top quizzes in the nation happening on Saturday after lunch, before the Award Ceremony. We are still working on a few guidelines and rules for this event and will post them in the near future. Then all the information you would need about how this would work and whether you would like your child to be involved in this will be on the website once we release it. Be watching for this.
We have also been looking at how we make Friday not quite such a long day. I want Friday to look more like the length of a school day than an extremely long day that it has been the last several years. So we are looking at shortening the number of rounds we do on Friday. The plan will be only 11 rounds of quizzing on Friday instead of the 15. The 11 rounds of quizzing will then be followed again by our 1-hour special service with emphasis on the Holy Spirit. The way teams qualify and register will be the same. The only difference will be the number of rounds on Friday. There will be four rounds of less quizzing.
We are looking forward to seeing all the teams that qualify at the Festival this year, and the extras that may be coming for the individual quizzing. It will be an exciting three days as we gather together around the Word of God through Junior Bible Quiz. Have a great rest of your season, and we’ll see many of you in a couple of months.
Individual Tournament at
the National JBQ Festival
March 6, 2026

We are excited to announce that at the 2026 National JBQ festival, we will host an Individual Tournament open to any child participating in JBQ in 1st through 6th grade.
The Individual Tournament will start on Thursday, June 11, 2026. All registered quizzers will need to check in between 12 p.m. and 12:15 p.m. Orientation will be at 12:15 p.m., followed immediately by round 1 of quizzing. Quizzers will be randomly assigned a room for the first round of quizzing and will receive their room assignment at check-in.
Each qualifying round will consist of up to 20 questions selected at random from the JBQ Fact Pack. There is no set number of 10, 20, or 30-point questions per round, and questions may be repeated between rounds. Point values will be read with the questions to assist quizzers with interrupting the question. However, for scoring purposes, the point value will not be counted; only whether the question is correct or incorrect will be counted.
A quizzer will quiz out forwards after answering 5 questions correctly and will strike out after answering 2 incorrectly. All rules in the JBQ Guidelines will be followed in determining correct/incorrect answers. Quizzers must place in the top two in their room to be considered for automatic advancement to the next round. Once a quizzer has not placed in the top 2 for two rounds, they will be eliminated from qualifying for the Championship round. Quizzing will continue until no more than 8 quizzers remain for the Championship round, which will be held on Saturday, June 13th, after the team quizzing concludes.
For the Championship round, questions will again be selected at random, with no set number of 10, 20, or 30-point questions. Quizzing will continue until final placements for the top quizzers are determined based on quiz-out forwards.
Any child wishing to participate must be registered by May 25, 2026. Registration will available on the JBQ Festival website.
Each church that has quizzers participating in the Individual tournament MUST provide at least one official for the tournament. Each room will have a Quizmaster and a scorekeeper. Any adult or former (graduated) quizzer wishing to officiate will need to register in advance to help with room assignments and ensure we have enough officials. All officials must have read the JBQ Guidelines and be familiar with the Individual tournament rules. All officials must be present for check-in and orientation.
Each church with individual quizzers competing in the Individual tournament MUST also bring their quiz box to check in.
Cost: $40 not part of a team in the Festival, $20 festival participants
